Here is my question for you as a member of Courthouse Road Church: How do we spend $5,000?
Our treasurer, Sammie Shorter, came to the Leadership Team Meeting with a really big grin on her face. She told us about receiving a check for $5,000.
Pastor Heather worked with the Leadership Team to meet the requirements for this grant. Now we get to decide how to spend it.
So start dreaming:
How can we be the hands and feet of Jesus in the piece of North Chesterfield that surrounds our church
The money comes from the Compassion 10 Million Movement. This compassion movement challenges us to share Christ's love beyond our walls. The challenge: to join with our fellow Seventh-day Adventist church members across North America to collectively invest ten million hours in acts of compassion.
Each year a grant is offered to fund acts of compassion. Pastor Heather worked with the Leadership Team to submit the grant request. For the grant submission to be accepted by the ministerial department of the Potomac Conference several requirements needed to be met. Among them, contact with local government, knowledge of the area around our church, a dream for what can be done with the funds, and how we share compassion regularly. With these requirements met: Courthouse Road Church's application was awarded $5,000. Half each from the Potomac Conference and the Columbia Union.
We as a church community get to decide how to invest this in being the hands and feet of Jesus to our North Chesterfield community. We will meet on Sabbath, August 26 and 5:30pm at the church to decide.
So what is your dream? How should we spend this grant money? Come and help decide!
